Bedford Federal Savings sponsors the 9th annual Limestone Capital Half Marathon Expo

BEDFORD – Come join the fun during the Limestone Capital Half Marathon Expo Friday, October 6th. The 9th annual event is sponsored by Bedford Federal Savings Bank.

When Bedford Federal Savings Bank says “Where Community Comes First”, they mean it. BedFed has supported local events for years.

“Bedford Federal is again proud to sponsor the Limestone Capital Half Marathon,” said M. Shea Hooten, president, and chief executive officer at Bedford Federal Savings Bank.” Bedford Federal has been doing so since the inception of the race. Bedford Federal takes great pride in being able to sponsor events within the communities we serve.”

“As Bedford and Lawrence County’s only locally owned bank, we believe it is the bank’s responsibility to try and provide the necessary banking products for its community, and to provide leadership that will help Bedford and Lawrence County’s citizens obtain a better quality of life. The bank does this by providing banking services, volunteerism, donations, and investments in Lawrence County. “

Not only does BedFed financially support local organizations, but they also encourage their employees to volunteer their time to local nonprofits because “That’s who we are. We ARE Bedford,” added Hooten.

“The bank and its employees take pride in the leadership roles its employees hold within the community,” said Hooten. “BedFed currently has 16 employees and board members volunteering their time and talents by serving 29 different organizations within Lawrence County. Some of the nonprofits served by the Bank’s employees are the Boys and Girls Club of Lawrence County, L.I.F.E. Food Pantry, Becky’s Place, LCCF, BRI, LCEGC, Agape Kids House, IU Health, IBA, Hoosier Hills Food Bank, Bedford Chamber of Commerce, and various local churches.

Bedford Federal Savings Bank firmly believes in giving back to the community. It does so by providing financial support to numerous nonprofits to help them continue their work.

In 2022, the bank donated over $130,000 to more than 75 different organizations. Over the last five years, Bedford Federal has donated more than $500,000 to various nonprofits and community organizations throughout Bedford and Lawrence County.

“Since 1926, Bedford Federal Savings Bank has provided Bedford and Greater Lawrence County with leading-edge deposit and lending opportunities,” added Hooten. “Now in its tenth decade, the Bank maintains its commitment to serving the communities of Lawrence County as an independent mutual savings bank with the best of banking and investment products, and continues to support local charities.”

On September 20, 1926, the bank was state chartered as a loan and savings association, known as Bedford Rural Loan and Savings Association, in the insurance office of Frank D. Hatfield, located in the Masonic Temple, with a capital stock of $50,000 and common stock of $450,000.

The incorporators and first directors were:

The bankers were involved because they wanted a local institution to make mortgage loans and their commercial banks didn’t make home mortgage loans back then.

In 2021 Bedford Federal Savings celebrated 95 years of commitment to our community.

One of the best-kept secrets to non-competitors is the pre-race expo where runners pick up bibs and packets – they’re open to everyone, whether you’re lacing up or not, and often feature vendors and exhibitors who hawk the latest fitness gear, offer health and fitness tips, and most importantly, unload free loot. You also get to meet and speak to those participating in the big race.

The Limestone Captial Half Marathon Expo takes place on Friday, October 6th from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. at the Milwaukee Depot building on the corner of J and 14th streets, which will also serve as the starting point and finish line for this year’s Limestone Capital Half Marathon, 5K & 1 Mile Walk. The marathon sponsored by McIntrye Bros. will take place on Saturday, October 7th.

All registrants should come by the expo Friday afternoon and pick up their race packet, bag, and t-shirt. Free grab-and-go refreshments will be provided like yogurt, cupcakes, fruit, and granola bars.

Be sure to register for a chance to win free prizes. You can also register for the race.

Southern Indiana’s Classic Hits 105.5 WQRK will be providing music and photo opportunities.
